I have many infuriating habits but I think the one that drives Joe1 most up the wall is my penchant for using every available horizontal surface as a filing cabinet.2
I don’t mean to do it; it just happens.
Because my brain knows that if something is put away tidily, I will forget it exists; the horizontal filing is like my working memory. It’s a thing I’m constantly working on, and when we have a house that is not a building site, I’ll devise a system where I can label everything so I know where it is.
The super-frustrating thing is: I hate mess. HATE IT. I find it supremely stressful.
So you can imagine how upsetting it is to be both the cause of my mess and the victim of it.
